Pondicherry is a union territory. It was a French Union before. The official language of Pondicherry is French. Pondicherry is a combination of four small and unconnected districts, Pondicherry , Yanam and Karaikal on the Bay of Bengal and Mahe on the Arabian Sea . Early day's French people came to Pondicherry and started doing business here. So, we can see shades of French culture even now in Pondicherry .

    Pondicherry was once a French colony and even today the French influence can be seeing this place. The streets in Pondicherry are perpendicular and have neat sectors. The city is divided into two parts the Indian quarter and French quarter. The city is full of built in French style buildings with long compounds and stately walls. The Indian type of houses are lined with verandas, with large number of doors and grills. Now some of these houses have been turned as hotels and guest houses. Some of the Agricultural products produced here are condiments, paddy, spices, coconuts, groundnut, arcanuts and chillies. The main occupation is fishing. Fishes of good quality are imported to various parts of the world from here. The major Industries found in Pondicherry are Real Estate and Tourism sectors. As people in Pondicherry are easy going and jovial many festivals are celebrated in Pondicherry like International Yoga Festival, Maangani Festival, Maasi Magam and Fete De Pondicherry. Pondicherry is one of the best tourist places to visit. There are many industries and textile centers which attracts people from different parts of the country and world.
